Hope Bus
FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is Hope Bus a separate nonprofit?
Hope Bus is a program of UMMA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity. Donations are tax-deductible under UMMA Foundation's EIN.
Who can come to a Hope Bus stop?
Anyone. No ID, no paperwork, no questions. We don't track who shows up — we just serve hot meals.
Where does my donation actually go?
Roughly two-thirds covers food sourcing and preparation. The rest covers fuel, insurance, supplies, and the operations that keep the bus on the road every week.
How is the monthly sustainer goal calculated per location?
Each route's monthly cost is based on what we actually spend: food, fuel, supplies, kitchen overhead allocated to that night. Brooklyn is the largest, Staten Island the smallest.
Can I volunteer just once to try it?
Yes. Sign up for any shift on the /volunteer page. We'll get in touch, brief you on what to expect, and you can decide after if you want a regular slot.
I'm under 18 — can I volunteer?
Yes, 16 and older with a parent or guardian sign-off. Reach out and we will send the consent form.
Can my mosque, school, or company sponsor a route for a month?
Yes — head to /sponsor or email hello@hopebus.org. We will match the donation to a specific route so your community sees exactly where the meals are going.
Can I run my own fundraiser for Hope Bus?
Yes — start one at /fundraise. People host Ramadan campaigns, birthday fundraisers, mosque drives, school class projects. We provide the page and the receipts.
Do you take food donations instead of money?
Sometimes — for bulk staples and halal meat from approved suppliers. Email hello@hopebus.org with what you have in mind.
Can I host a Hope Bus stop in my neighborhood?
Maybe. We pick stops based on need, access, and the local relationships that make distribution safe. Reach out and we will talk it through.
